Formulas

3 ÷ 5 = 0.6
Numerator ÷ denominator = decimal
0.6 × 100 = 60
Decimal × 100 = percent

Assumptions

•
Make the denominator 100: the numerator is then the percent.
•
A percent is hundredths: 60% = 60/100 = 0.6.
•
Make the denominator 100 when it divides 100; else divide (3 ÷ 8 = 0.375 = 37.5%).
•
A fraction past 1 is past 100%: 5/4 = 125%, up to 10 (1,000%). Denominators 2, 4, 5, 8, 10, 20, 25, 40, 50 and 100.
